English poetry

Half-Hidden Secret

There is a desire that will never expire
There is a silence that I’ll never break
There are stormy clouds that slowly gather
Above the horizon whilst I lie awake.
There is a secret that I will never share;
It is buried somewhere between you and me -
Etched on my memory, engraved in your stare,
It stays half-hidden, desperate to break free.
There is an intention that you won’t deliver.
There is a promise that you won’t keep.
There is intense chemistry that we still share:
It keeps haunting us in our feverish sleep.
There was a sunset mistaken for a dawn.
There was a truth camouflaged as a lie.
There were stolen embraces that led on
To a burning desire that we both still deny.
